2026-2027
At TexStar, we create a fun, family-oriented environment while maintaining structure and emphasizing proper progressions. We set high expectations for our athletes but make the journey toward achieving their goals an enjoyable one. Our success comes from our passion for the sport, our supportive atmosphere, and our commitment to helping every child learn, grow, and succeed, not just in cheerleading, but in life.
At TexStar, we offer four different programs:
Rising Stars, Novice, Elite Prep, & Elite Cheer

ALL STAR CHEER Q&A
When are All Star Cheer Tryouts?
All Star Cheer Evaluations will take place May 15-18. Specific dates, times, and full details will be included in the Information Packet above.
What If We Cannot Make Evaluations?
If it will not be possible for you to attend the scheduled evaluation dates, please email david@texstarlubbock.com to request a private evaluation. Private evaluations are only offered if you absolutely cannot attend the scheduled dates.
How Can We Prepare for Evaluations?
1. All Star Prep Clinics & Open Gyms
Our All Star Prep Clinics and Open Gyms help athletes prepare for tryouts by building skills, confidence, and technique in a supportive environment. Clinics focus on tumbling, jumps, dance, stunts, and performance readiness, while open gyms allow athletes to get extra reps and work on skills of their choice. These sessions are open to members and non-members and are a great way to feel comfortable heading into tryouts.
2. Join Our All Star Tumbling Program
Our All Star Tumbling program is another great way to prepare. Athletes work directly with our All Star tumbling coaches on the tumbling passes evaluated at cheer tryouts.
Benefits include:
• Becoming familiar with our coaches and gym
• Gaining confidence in a competitive setting
• Refining the exact skills evaluated at tryouts
Program Details:
• Focused on advancing tumbling skills in a competitive environment
• Classes practice and refine all tumbling skills within each level
• Twice per week, 1 hour per class
• Open enrollment year-round (30-day notice required for withdrawal)
To enroll for Spring 2026, email info@texstarlubbock.com
Classes run through May 24, 2026, and the new season restarts after tryouts.
How Do I Know If My Child Is Ready for All Star Cheer?
Your child does not need specific skills to participate. We offer programs for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. If your child loves cheer and is excited to commit to being part of a team, we will have a place for them.
How Do I Know Which Program My Child Should Be In?
Programs are primarily divided by commitment level, not just skill. Families choose the level of time and financial commitment that works best for them.
Program Breakdown:
• Rising Stars: Local performances/competitions, lower commitment. Perform at competitions rather than compete against other teams.
• Novice: Minimal travel, moderate commitment. Compete against the scoresheet, focusing on improving their own score rather than competing against other teams.
• Prep: Travel competitions, moderate-to-high commitment.
• Elite: Travel competitions, highest commitment.
Prep vs. Elite:
• Prep teams compete one day at travel competitions
• Elite teams compete two days and perform a longer routine
• As a D2 gym, we are limited to 125 Elite athletes, so placements are more selective
• Athletes trying out for Elite are also evaluated for Prep
We place athletes where they fit best based on skill level, experience, and overall team needs.
Take our online quiz to find out instantly which program would be the best fit:

Is It Possible for an Athlete to Not Make a Team?
No. All athletes who try out will make a team. Tryouts are an evaluation process to determine the best placement, not a cut process. We carefully build teams to give each one the best opportunity for success.
What Can I Expect for My Child in the TexStar Cheer Program?
While we care about performance and results, our mission goes far beyond scores and trophies. We are committed to developing strong, confident, well-rounded athletes.
Through cheer, athletes learn:
• Commitment and responsibility
• Resilience and perseverance
• Teamwork and accountability
• How to win with humility
• How to face adversity and grow from it
These lessons extend far beyond the mat and help shape confident young people for life.
What if we don’t have cheer shoes, do we need to buy them?
• Rising Stars: You may purchase any white cheer shoe on your own.
• All other teams: Shoes will be ordered at uniform fittings in June.
Athletes can wear light-weight tennis shoes until shoes arrive.
When is paperwork due?
All tryout paperwork is due by May 14th.
What does my child wear to evaluations?
• Tight-fitting athletic wear: ALL BLACK
• Cheer shoes preferred (or tennis shoes)
• Hair pulled back
• No jewelry
Can parents watch evaluations?
Evaluations are closed to parents.
This allows athletes to feel more confident and focused and helps coaches evaluate without distractions, creating the best environment for everyone.
Why is there a check-in time and evaluation time?
Check-in allows time to:
-Confirm paperwork is complete
-Answer any questions
-Make sure all athletes have arrived and are ready for evaluations
All athletes will then begin evaluations at the same time, so please arrive at your assigned check-in time.
If we try out for a specific program, can placement change?
Yes. If your child is better suited for a different level, they may be placed accordingly.
We will never place an athlete in a higher commitment program without speaking with a parent first.
Our goal is always to set your child up for success.
When do teams start practicing?
Team practices begin June 1 and run through May 2027.
This is a full-year commitment.
Will my older beginner be placed with younger athletes?
We build teams based on both age AND skill level.
If an exact match isn’t available, we will discuss options with you to ensure your athlete feels confident and fits in.
Can we join in the fall?
• Elite teams: Finalized after evaluations and will fill quickly (limited to 125 athletes).
• All other levels: Limited fall openings may be available, but are not guaranteed.
Most skills and choreography are learned during the summer.
We have vacations planned this summer, what should we do?
Summer attendance is more flexible—we want athletes to enjoy their summer!
If you are in town, we expect attendance, but we understand vacations.
Choreography camp is mandatory—dates will be sent after teams are announced.
What is included in the tryout package? ($135)
• Evaluation fee
• 3 practice wear shirts
• Locker for the season
• Yard sign
• Personalized car decal
You will receive these items at your first summer practice!
How do I pay the tryout fee?
The tryout fee is included in your online tryout paperwork, not in the portal.
In the portal, you will simply select your evaluation date.
What do athletes wear to practice?
Athletes will wear:
• TexStar practice wear shirt. Practice days will be assigned a color to wear (provided in tryout package)
• Any black spandex shorts
• Any black sports bra (TexStar preferred)
Additional optional practice wear will be available after teams are set.
When will we get the summer practice schedule?
Summer practice schedules will be released when teams are announced.
You’ll also be able to submit your availability/preferences in your information packet.
We’re excited for another amazing All Star season! If you have questions, please reach out anytime.

KAELIE
“TexStar has become like family to me. The owners, coaches, and my teammates always welcome me and make me feel like I truly belong. The coaches constantly encourage and motivate me while also holding me accountable to be my best.
To me, TexStar isn’t just special—it’s my second home. It’s a place where I feel supported, where I belong, and where I’m encouraged to become the best version of myself.

LEXI
"TexStar is special to me because it feels like my second home. The owners and coaching staff have made it a safe and fun environment. Texstar is special to me because I have been there almost 10 years and have grown as a person and athlete. I especially love coach Davids green smoothies!"

VIVIENNE
"Being a TexStar Cheerleader has been an incredibly positive force in my life.
I’ve been able to work with dedicated and talented coaches and made life-long friends with some of my teammates. I’ve learned a lot through cheer; I know that life is a competition sport and there are no substitutes in the sidelines waiting to give me a break. I also know I’ve learned a lot about myself and what I’m made of through grueling practices and the bright lights of the stage. Looking back, I feel that having goals and expectations centered around cheer has taught me how to pursue goals in other areas of life too."

ASPYN
"TexStar is special to me because it’s been my safe space in some of the hardest things I’ve had to deal with. All the coaches have always wanted the best for me and I’ll always be grateful that I can feel so loved in my gym."

ELLIE
"Texstar not only gave me a place to cheer, but after my second surgery they welcomed me back without hesitation. This is a place I will forever, be grateful for, and will always love. Nothing else brings me more happiness than when I am in my uniform and on that mat watching my coaches go crazy on the side, so proud of us. TexStar is my happy place!"
